Check Ride Defensive Driving Education

Thank you for considering enrollment in our well-established and successful teenage defensive driving course which most satisfactorily serves hundreds of students annually. We are fully licensed and approved by the Washington State Department of Licensing.

teen image We have classes available to accommodate even the most demanding schedules of today’s busy high school or junior high student.

By law, an enrollee must be at least 15 years of age and the training must include:

• 5 hours of behind-the-wheel driving
• A minimum of 1 hour of behind-the-wheel observation
• 34 hours of supervised classroom activities

The program must be completed in entirety within a 3-month period with no exceptions. There is no learners permit required at the time of enrollment as we are authorized by the State to issue a Department of Licensing Waiver 10 days prior to class starting. This will allow the student to get a permit without taking the knowledge test until after course completion.

Our excellent classroom teaching is supported by continually updated audio-visual aids and is designed to give the beginning driver appropriate techniques, theory, and rules of the road knowledge so necessary to drive defensively with skill and careful relaxation in today's traffic. Street instruction is given in late model, dual-controlled automatic transmission automobiles on an individually scheduled basis arranged to fit the time demands of the student and parents. Automatic transmission vehicles are employed as they prove to be the best approach for the learner in today's complex traffic situations.

Check Ride believes in involving the parents throughout the Driver Education experience. This is why we set aside the first hour of Session 1 as student and parent orientation. It’s a great opportunity for the parent/guardian to become aware of the specifics of our program, meet the instructor plus get any questions answered. We will go over our expectations, the course curriculum and introduce you to the Parent Guide issued by Washington State. Plan on taking that first night of class and spending it with us and your student. Start your teen off on the right road to a safe lifetime of driving.

We are excited to announce that the teenage students who receive their permits from the Waivers provided by Check Ride will be participating in a Pilot Program. They will be given one opportunity to take their knowledge test here at Check Ride rather than at the DMV. Then your student will only have to schedule their skills test to obtain their license.
